AIMtech consulting are a UK based SME that has "spun-out" from Leeds University Business School. Building on its academic foundations its focus is to ensure its rhobust approach is grounded in the reality of the domain it is operating in. Its security research work is a prime example of that approach. Having just successfully completed the DISASTER project,we are building on that external stakeholder engagement work to enhance our role in the NEXES project.
NEXES is a 36 month research and innovation project, starting in May 2015 aims to deliver not just innovation in the emergency communications domain but also to support ongoing standarisation activities with regard to 999 / 112 services across Europe. We will achieve this by enabling:
(i)the use of total conversation capabilities in emergencies, including social media, to the benefit of citizens, including those less able citizens or those having special needs;
(ii) the exploitation of improved location information to rapidly and effectively identify and locate the caller and the incident site; and
(iii) the leverage of Internet-enabled connectivity to enhance interoperability and shared awareness among emergency services, to the benefit of a more secure society.
NEXES will utilise the latest developments in IP-based communications technologies and interoperability for the benefit of the emergency services and most importantly the citizens they serve.
The project is challenging and ambitious, but has an excellent consortium to deliver the required results
The NEXES Consortium includes 17 participating organisations from 10 different countries. Coordinated by UK based company RINICOM Ltd and by the Police And Crime Commissioner For West Yorkshire Police, the other partners include the Ambulance and Emergency Physicians Association (Turkey), Aimtech Consulting Ltd. (United Kingdom), Azienda Regionale Emergenza Urgenza (Italy), Ministero Dell'interno (Italy), Deveryware (France), European Union of the Deaf (Belgium), Institute Of Communication And Computer Systems (Greece), Insta (Finland), Omnitor (Sweden), Orange Romania (Romania), Police University College (Finland), Préfecture de Police (France), Teamnet (Romania), Telekom Slovenia (Slovenia) and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).
The next pages provide more details on the project goals and proposed innovations which will provide more detailed information about the project work. The latest news section is where you can read press releases and, forgive the second and final plug, my NEXES blog. Finally there is a contact page and we welcome your views and input into the project. To misquote someone of far greater wisdom than me " None of us know as much as all of us" so please do get in touch.
